MAYSVILLE Flora Mae (Irvin) Poe, 87 of Maysville departed this life Tuesday, August 8th, 2017 at the Care Center at Kenton Pointe after a brief illness. She was born January 8th, 1930 in Mason County to the late Herman Blair Irvin and Mary Louise Black Irvin.

Flora Mae was a retired administrative assistant of 21 years at the Maysville Community College as well as a devoted mother and homemaker.  She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, active member of the Lewisburg Homemakers, and an avid UK basketball fan. While an award winning cook noted for her baking skills with transparent tarts and jam cakes she was equally at home in the pouring rain behind a camp stove at Cave Run Lake or fixing tomato soup and grilled cheese for her discerning grandchildren.

She was married to Lawrence Poe Jr for sixty-seven years until his death in 2014. Together they had three children: Judy Insko of Winchester and Larry (Barbara) Poe and Bob Poe, both of Maysville. Her pride and joy were her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  The grandchildren are: Brent Insko and Brad (Staci) Insko of Portland, Ore.; Lawrence (Yngvild) Poe of Raleigh, NC; Blair Poe of Ithaca, NY; and Robert Poe of Maysville. Great-grandchildren are: Noah and Owen Insko and Mathias and Gustav Poe all of whom she got to enjoy and spend time with within the last few weeks.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a special son-in-law, Lynn Insko of Winchester, KY and her only brother Herman Irvin of Dewey, Ill.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 PM on Wednesday, August 16 at the Palmer Funeral Home & Crematory in May’s Lick with Pastor Larry Manning officiating.  Interment will follow in the Shannon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her four grandsons, and her exceptional neighbors and dear friends Tom Clarke and Andrew Wood.   A Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.   In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy are suggested to:  Mason County Homemakers Flora Mae Poe Scholarship Fund (800 US 68, Maysville, KY 41056).  The Palmer Funeral Home & Crematory of May’s Lick is serving the family.  Online condolences may be given at www.palmerfuneralhome.net
