George Thomas Mitchell, born September 25, 1951, completed his time on earth on March 25, 2024.
George graduated from Maysville High School and was the son of the late Christine Hitt Rigdon and Henry Thomas Mitchell. He was the beloved husband of Sandra Adams Mitchell. Together, they shared a bond strengthened by love and commitment. His sisters are Marla Jackson and Brenda Anderson.
George was a loving father to his three children: Monica (Sam) Hutchinson, Christy (Artiom) Ryabikova and Joe Mitchell and to his stepchildren Brandon Ripato and Peter(Amy) Ripato. George was blessed with six grandchildren, Abi (Kody) Hutchinson Kasey, Bailey Hutchinson, Eli (Anna) Hutchinson, Levi Ripato, Alex Ripato, and Maks Ryabikov. His friend, Roger Dillon, was a brother to him.
George was a founding member of Crossroads Baptist Church. His encounter with Jesus Christ at a crossroads transformed his life, and he dedicated himself to serving his Savior and sharing his testimony with others. He often reflected on his salvation experience, saying, "I wasn’t looking for Him but He was looking for me."
Professionally, George began Mitchell Construction in 1978, building over 75 houses, performing numerous renovations as well as many other projects. He served his customers faithfully in severe weather, sometimes 24 hours a day. George mentored many employees, teaching them the craft of construction so they could form businesses of their own.
