Delia Higgins Franklin, 87, of Lexington, formerly of May's Lick passed away Thursday, September 1 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Mrs. Franklin was born on May 28, 1924 to the late Lincoln and Emma Ray Higgins.
Affectionately known as "Aunt Dill" to many, Delia was a devoted provider for her family. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, united with Second Baptist Church of May's Lick. She was a devout and faithful member who raised her children in the precepts and principles of the Christian faith. As devoted worker in the ministries of the church she served as chairperson for many Homecoming and Church events, was a teacher for the BTU, Missionary President, and was a member of the Mason County Homemaker's. She worked at the May's Lick Elementary School, and later moved to the Mason County Middle School where she retired from the position of Food Service Manager. Along with other employment, she also provided private homecare to those in need.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons; Paul Garnett & Michael Wayne Franklin, and four brothers; Sam, Wallace, Obie and David Higgins, and two sisters; Odessa Higgins & Alice Higgins Queen.
She is survived by six children; Raymond Franklin, Jr. (Helga), Rev. Norman P. Franklin (Maxine), Omelia Thornton (Rev. Carl), Ronnie Thomas Franklin (Vickie), George William Franklin, all of Lexington, and Rev. Howard Lee Franklin (Carolyn) of May's Lick, and 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 7 at the Second Baptist in May's Lick with Rev. Rodney Bennett and Rev. Daniel Childs officiating. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday at the Church and noon until the hour of the service Wednesday. Palmer Funeral Home of May's Lick is serving the family.
