Elwood Gifford, 91, formerly of the Forman's Chapel Road passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Robertson County Health Care Facility. He was a retired tobacco & beef cattle farmer. His wife Nina Rose Hester Gifford death occurred on November 2, 2005. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WW II.
Mr. Gifford was born in Mason County on August 1, 1923 son of the late Irvin & Flora Mae Jefferson Gifford. He was a member of Sardis Christian Church where he formerly served as an elder and treasurer. He was very active in the community he had served on the Mason County ASCS committee and the Buffalo Trace Water District and was a member of Sardis Lions Club, Mason County Farm Bureau and Mason County Homemaker's Men's Club.
Survivors include a son Johnny Gifford of Sardis and a daughter, Ninette (Randy) Gaither of Louisville; three grandchildren Matt (Heather) Gaither, Jason (Missy) Gifford and Zane Gifford; three great-grandchildren Ashley, Brittney and Johnathon Gifford. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a granddaughter Sarah Beth Gaither; two brothers Richard Gifford and James E. Gifford; three sisters Wanda Fowler, Garnet C. Ring , Lillie Mae Gifford and a daughter-in-law Nancy Burns Gifford.
Services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, November 17, 2014 at Palmer Funeral Home in May's Lick with Dr. Michael Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Shannon Cemetery with military rites conducted by Simon Kenton Post # 2734 VFW. Pallbearers will be Jason Gifford, Zane Gifford, Matt Gaither, Mike Gifford, David Gifford and Keith Gifford. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Fowler, Ralph Gaither and John Alexander.
