Gary J. "Joe" Orme, 65 of Maysville passed away Saturday September 6, 2014 surrounded by his family at Hospice Care Center at Kenton Pointe after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a retired 40 year employee of Emerson Power Transmission and a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and a US Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam Conflict.
Joe was born in Sardis on September 28, 1948 son of the late Orville L. "Zorie" & Kathleen Culp Orme. He was a member of the DeKalb Lodge and was a past Noble Grand, also the American Legion and a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans and a graduate of the Mason County High School. He was a fisherman and hunter and an avid UK basketball fan.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Anna Douglas Orme. Three daughters, Sandy Brown of Maysville, Andrea (James) Duncan and Cheri (Shane) McCord both of Ewing; five grandchildren, Joseph, Caleb and Isaac Brown, Jacob Duncan and Sean McCord. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Owen Wayne Orme.
Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday September 10, 2014 at Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Fleming Co. with Bro. Steve Singer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley Post # 1834. Active pallbearers will be Gerald Fizer, Charles Hornback, Archie Rose, Larry Hinton, Jerry Hafer and Bobby Walton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Culp, Marce Douglas, James Jolly, Jimmy Culp, Howard Kegley, Randy Vance and Jamie Fulton. Visitation 5-8 P.M. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in May's Lick with Odd Fellow rites at 7:30 P.M. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, 2008 Charlotte Ave, Nashville, TN 37203 or the Cancer Care Club of Mason & Fleming Counties.
