GENE FRANCES SMOOT, 87, a longtime resident of the Fernleaf Community passed
away Thursday, April 22, 2010  at Mayfair Manor in Lexington.  She had been a resident of Lexington for sometime.  Mrs. Smoot was a homemaker and an accomplished artist and a musician who shared her talents with many.  She was born in Bracken County on May 10, 1922 daughter of the late Eugene Asbury & Mae Wallingford Boyd.  She was an active member of the Minerva United Methodist Church, Fernleaf Homemakers, Friends of Minerva and the Augusta Art Guild.  Survivors include 2 daughters, Melissa (Eddie) McNutt of Paris, KY and Cheryl (Mac) Colliver of Nicholasville, KY.  7 grandchildren, Melissa Fernandez, Kathleen Colliver, Carey Colliver, Amy McNutt, Maggie McNutt, Jacob McNutt and Ben McNutt.  1 nephew, Charles E. Boyd and A niece Susan Hoag.  She was preceded in death by Husband Walter Dee Smoot and her brother Ward W. "Buck" Boyd.  Services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Monday April 26, 2010 at Minerva United Methodist Church .  Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Germantown
. Visitation 4-6 P.M. Sunday at the church.  Memorials suggested to Minerva UMC or Friends of Minerva.  Palmer Funeral Home is serving the family.
