James E. Berry Sr., 87, of Maysville passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Mr. Berry was born in May's Lick on July 18, 1928 son of the late Leander & Pearl Lang Berry. He was a retired employee of the Mason County Board of Education serving as Custodian of Mason County High School. He was an avid fisherman and he was honored by the Mason County Fiscal Court by proclaiming James Berry Day. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for a total of 23 years.
Survivors include five daughters, JoAnn ( Frank) Burns, Jacqueline (Fred) Bundick, Sharon Burns, Bobby Campbell, Lisa (Chris) Simpson and a son James E. (Penney) Berry, Jr.; a sister Helen Haley and a brother, Robert Berry; eight grandchildren, Larry Burns, Jr., Adam Wayne Burns, Johnathan Bundick, Michelle Bundick, Sierrah B. Campbell, Kierra Gibbs, Alexander S. Campbell and Annelise Simpson; two great-grandchildren, Izaia Burns and Rylen Burns; a great-grandchild on the way, Andrew Bundick; and special family friends, Larry Burns Sr. and Harry Campbell, Jr. and his constant companion Shep. He was preceded in death by his wife Lenora Bush Berry on June 13, 2012 and three grandchildren, Brandon & Lauren Campbell and Luca Burns; two sisters, Myrtle Berry and Ann Corde; four brothers, Preston Berry, Thomas Berry, John Berry and Vennie Berry.
Services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Washington Missionary Baptist Church, 504 Clark St. in Maysville with Pastor Darrell Ashby officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery with military rites conducted by Simon Kenton Post #2734. Visitation will be held 5-8 P.M. Friday at the church.
