Janet May Moreland, 84, passed away on September 24, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on February 9, 1942, in Bethel, Ohio.

Janet approached life with curiosity and a sense of wonder. She remained interested in people, ideas, and the possibilities of life, while bringing a wonderful sense of humor to those who knew her. Her joyful spirit made her memorable and deeply loved.

A lifelong learner, Janet earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She devoted her professional life to helping others as a speech pathologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Her love of ideas also found expression through writing, and she was a published author—an accomplishment of which she was especially proud.

Above all, Janet was a mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her son, Tim Simpson of San Francisco, California; her brother, Jeff Moreland of Richmond, Kentucky; her sisters, Judy Fearis of Vanceburg, Kentucky, and Joyce Hamilton of Russellville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Those who loved Janet will remember her laughter, her open mind, and the delight she took in discovering something new. She will be deeply missed, and the love she brought into the lives of others will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
