MAY'S LICK Jerry Groves Courtney, 64, of U.S. 62 Maysville passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington after a short illness.
He was born in Fleming County on March 5, 1947 son of the late M.P. "Bus" and Ella Henson Courtney. He was also preceded in death by a brother Garrett Courtney.
Mr. Courtney retired after 24 years of service as a technician from Sears. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War where he received three service medals. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a devoted husband of 40 years to Darlene Doyle Courtney and in addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Brandi (Erick) Mauricio of May's Lick and stepson Jonathan (Melissa) Wise of Paducah, KY and three grandchildren, Chase Mauricio, his best friend and hunting buddy, Kelsey and Little Jonathan Michael Wise. Also surviving is two brothers Larry and Bill Courtney of Ewing and a sister Linda (Steve) Pugh of Mt. Olivet. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many beloved family members.
Services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday at May's Lick Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the May's Lick Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Franklin Sousley Post VFW. Visitation 5-8 P.M. Tuesday at the church.
