John Maurice French, Sr., 94, well-known farmer-landowner of the Taylor Mill Road Maysville passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his farm home.
Mr. French was born in Daviess Co, KY on August 27, 1920 son of the late William Harrison & Pearl Pope French and was a graduate of Kentucky State University where he was active in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He was a retired Assistant Supervisor of the Farmer's Home Administration and Agriculture Teacher at John G. Fee High School and an U.S. Army Veteran serving his country in WW II where he received two bronze and two silver stars. Mr. French was very active in the community serving as a board member of Mason County Farm Bureau and a commissioner of the Soil Conservation District-area 5. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in May's Lick as well as a member of Acacia Lodge # 24 F&AM and the Ambassador's Club.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years Gwendolyn Boulden French. Three children, Dr. Robert H. (Mafalda) French, Dr. Cheryl M.R. French and John M. French Jr. all of Maysville; two grandchildren, Paul Harrison French of Maysville and Shameca (Luke)Freeman of Radcliff, KY; a sister Mary Jo French Whitfield of Chicago, IL. Also surviving is a special friend Charles (Mavis) Hord of Maysville and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mr. French was preceded in death by the following siblings : Viola French, Henry French, Chester French, William French, Rosella F. Porterfield, and Roscoe Morman French.
Services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Palmer Funeral Home in May's Lick with Rev. L. Rodney Bennett officiating and Rev. Daniel Childs assisting. Burial will follow in the May's Lick Cemetery with military rites conducted by Simon Kenton Post # 2734 VFW. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
