Joseph W. (Jay) Wallingford died peacefully at his home in Frankfort, KY on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Born in Fleming County on August 20, 1926, Jay was the son of the late Harry and Jessie Watts Wallingford. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the European campaign during WWII, earning a Bronze Star.  Following the war Jay was assigned as a guard for the initial phase of the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials.  He is survived by his daughter Mickey (Phil) Wilson, of Angola, Indiana, son Whitney (Jean Ann) Wallingford of Lexington, son Patrick (Angie) Wallingford of Frankfort, and grandchildren Robbie Jones (Angola, Indiana), Jay Jones (Lexington, Kentucky), Megan Jones (Angola, Indiana) Whitney Ann Adams (Boulder, Colorado), Nicholas Wallingford (Lexington, Kentucky), Samantha Woods (Frankfort, Kentucky) and Katlin Schagane (Frankfort, Kentucky). Jay is also survived by his brother Harry Wallingford (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and sister Dorothy Brown (Flemingsburg, Kentucky).  A memorial of his life will be celebrated at the Elizaville Cemetery, in Elizaville, Kentucky at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jay's honor to the Markey Cancer Foundation, 800 Rose Street, Bldg CC160, Lexington, Kentucky 40536-0093.
