Lawrence Poe, Jr., 86, passed away after a brief illness at his home at 260 Edgemont Rd. Thursday afternoon, March 13, 2014.

He was born in Mays Lick, on January 31, 1928 to Mildred Fulton and Lawrence Poe, Sr.

He graduated from Mays Lick High School excelling in sports making the All Mason County Basketball team and was a left hand baseball pitcher.

A Kentucky Colonel, June was a retired gear manufacturing specialist of 41 years at Browning/Emerson Power Transmission.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Flora Mae (Irvin) Poe; a daughter Judy (Lynn) Insko of Winchester, and two sons Larry (Barbara) Poe, and Bob Poe (Karen Lanter) both of Maysville; 5 grandchildren Brent Insko and Brad (Staci) Insko of Portland, OR, Lawrence (Yngvild) Poe of Tonsberg, Norway, Blair Poe of Ithaca, NY and Robert Poe of Maysville; and two great-grandchildren Noah Insko and Mathias Poe;
He also leaves a special cousin Cecil Fulton of Mays Lick.

He is also survived by two brothers Emmitt (Jane) Poe of Mays Lick and Ray (Sudie) Poe of Cincinnati.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Helen (William) Sanders, brother Howard "Tade" Poe.

June enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.  He was an avid basketball fan, especially the University of Kentucky Wildcats and Mason County Royals and enjoyed attending the Sweet Sixteen.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was a fierce euchre player.

June loved fishing.  Last summer he watched his 4-year-old great grandson catch his first fish. He loved family trips: camping and fishing at Cave Run Lake and beach trips to Destin, FL. He would tinker on anything mechanical from lawn mowers to vacuum cleaners.

He was a 50 year plus member of Maysville Lodge #52 F&AM.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Mays Lick. Pastor Larry Manning will officiate. Serving as Pallbearers are 4 of his grandchildren: Brent Insko, Lawrence Poe, Brad Insko, Robert Poe, and two nephews: Bill Sanders and John Poe.   Honorary pallbearers are Louis N. Browning, Tom Clarke, and Andrew Wood.  Interment will follow in the Shannon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014, from 4 -7 P.M. at the Funeral Home.  Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7 PM by the Maysville Lodge #52 F&AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
