Marjorie Elizabeth Schramm Holbrook, 86, formerly of Versailles, Kentucky, passed away in Maysville, Kentucky on August 24, 2026. Margie was a cherished mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Margie had a vitality and love for life that makes it incomprehensible that she is gone. She had a curiosity and breadth of knowledge that is hard to describe in one paragraph. It was always a foregone conclusion that you would lose Trivial Pursuit to her since she knew every category. Her interests were the same: widely varied and she knew them well. She was an avid gardener, voracious reader and award-winning knitter. Many families have probably passed down her delightful berry caps to their grandchildren. She loved to share her passions and shared her knowledge of knitting, gardening and life in equal measure.

Both Margie and her husband, Ray, had a passion for community and left a mark on all the many places they lived. In her later years, Margie’s job as Advertising Manager at The Woodford Sun in Versailles, Kentucky suited her perfectly. She loved being out meeting people and building the connections to support her community. She further served Woodford County on the Chamber of Commerce. In 2007, the Chamber awarded her the President’s Award for Outstanding Commitment to Woodford County. After Ray’s passing, Margie moved closer to family in Maysville, Kentucky. In Mason County she served one year as President of the Tri-County Democratic Woman’s Club until failing health began to limit her mobility and communication.

To be sure, Margie loved her family, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention her love of many friends from all the many places she lived in her lifetime. Not necessarily in chronological order, or all-inclusive, these include Yonkers, NY, Absecon, NJ, Lexington Park, MD, Simsbury, CT and Versailles, KY. Margie’s declining health in the last few years made it difficult for her to talk on the phone. She so loved keeping in touch with everyone. We want those friends to know how much she cared for them and how they added to the richness of her life.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Paul Holbrook and her daughter, Marjorie “Crickett” Harmon-Franzoi. There is much peace in knowing they have had a joyful reunion.

Margie is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Holbrook Zeigler (Maysville, KY) and adult grandchildren, Katie Zeigler (Louisville, KY), Jacob Zeigler (Louisville, KY) and Max Zeigler (Maysville, KY). Also surviving her are stepson Steve Holbrook and his family (St. Louis, MO) and son-in-law, Eric Franzoi (Ft. Meyers, FL). Her dear friends, Tessa and Henry Goldsmith of Galloway Township, NJ have been a constant source of love and support.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Palmer Funeral Home

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, at Palmer Funeral Home 5043 Main St. May’s Lick KY 41055
