Maxine Devon Sapp, 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family and caregivers. She was born on July 26, 1940, to the late James Leslie and Irene Dillon Devon at their home, which later became her favorite place, Johnson Lane in Slip Up.
Maxine attended Morehead State University where she completed her master's degree in education. She was a beloved kindergarten and first grade teacher for 33 years. Maxine enjoyed working on their farm, baking, and crafting when she found the time. She was an active member of Shannon Global Methodist Church where she served and worshiped. Maxine was a loyal fan and supporter of the Mason County Royals. Her and her late husband, Harry, loved to camp, were members of the Florida Camping Club, and were proud to say they had the opportunity to visit all 50 states while traveling together. Maxine will fondly be remembered for her delicious candy trays at Christmas time. She was hardworking, full of energy and enthusiasm, adored wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceding her in death are her parents; loving husband, Harry Sapp; special grandson, Justin; son in law, Barry Gifford, and sister, Carolyn Devon Cracraft.
Those left to carry on her loving legacy are her daughters, Leslie Gifford and Lori King; special son in law, Clay King; grandchildren, Keith Gifford, caregiver and granddaughter, Jenny (Nick) Wright, Carson King, Cody King; great grandchildren, Barry, Grace, Ransom, Ryder, Justin; nieces, Beth Pendergraft, Kay Watts, Reba Schantz, Alice Caudill; brother in law, Tony Sapp; cousins from Missouri, Connie Dillon Diehl, Teresa Dillon Heckadon; many caregivers and extended family and dear friends. Maxine was blessed with the best care from everyone, including Patsy, Barb, Debra, Martha, Emma, Carson, Grace, and especially her devoted granddaughter, Jenny.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Palmer Funeral Home in May's Lick, KY. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Maxine will be laid to rest by her husband in May's Lick Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandson's and great grandchildren, Carson and Cody King, Barry and Ryder Gifford, Grace, Ransom, and Justin Wright. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Gifford, Clay King, Nick and Jenny Wright and David French.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maxine's name to the St. Patrick School playground fund in memory of her grandson, Justin Sapp. Contributions may also be made to Shannon Global Methodist Church, C/O Dick Clary 4065 KY 596, May's Lick, KY 41055.
