Obituary

Mayola Neville Doyle, 97, of May's Lick, Ky. passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Maysville Nursing and Rehab.  She was the widow of Neville Doyle.

Born in Robertson County, Ky. on September 9,1928, she was the daughter of the late Neville Crockett and Jessie Myrtle Fogg Smith.

Growing up as an only child, Mayola had a happy childhood. She had dreams of becoming a teacher, but a handsome man with big brown eyes changed that for her. In 1943, she married the love of her life, Neville Doyle. They spent the first 16 years of their marriage in Kentucky working on the family tobacco farm. Mayola and Neville moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. in the late 50’s where they spent many years. They returned to May's Lick, where they both lived out their lives. They were devoted to one another for 66 years before Neville’s passing in 2009. Mayola always said, “he was the only man for me.”

Mayola was a strong, hard-working woman as she helped worked the family farm alongside the men. She continued to live independently on the farm following Neville’s death for ten years. Mayola worshipped at May's Lick Christian Church where she also enjoyed playing the piano. She loved country music and would tell everyone that she was Gene Watson’s biggest fan. Mayola enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She’d always take up the offer to go to a casino where she loved playing the penny slots. She also loved playing Euchre with her friends. Mayola especially enjoyed the time spent with her nephew Mike Doyle that always took care of her. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed sharing stories and was the family historian. She worked tirelessly on our family tree and helped others research theirs.

Mayola is survived by her two daughters,  Janet Faye Doyle Rawls of Conyers, Ga., and Maxine Laverne Doyle Vokes of May's Lick, Ky. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Lisa Rawls Morton (Tony) of Conyers, Ga., Shannon Vokes (Joanna) of May's Lick, Ky., Shelby Rawls of Conyers, Ga., and Renee Vokes of May's Lick, Ky. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Mayola was preceded in death by her husband,  her parents, and her son-in-law,  Sam "Scooter" Rawls.
