Lena Thurston Buckner Orme, 95, of Maysville, passed away on Sunday, February 02, 2014 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
A native of Mason County, Mrs. Orme was born on January 16, 1919, the daughter of the late Noble Thurston and Elizabeth Emmons Huff Buckner.  She grew up in the Sardis Community and was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church before moving to Maysville in 1977.  She then transferred her membership to the Washington United Methodist Church in 1978 where for many years she served as worship chairman, sang in the choir, and taught the adult Sunday school class.
Mrs. Orme graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1957 where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and then went on to a lifetime of teaching in the Robertson County and Mason County School Systems until her retirement in 1988 with 47 years experience.  During her teaching career, she was an active member of several professional education organizations.  In 1991, she was selected an Outstanding alumni of the 1936 graduating classes by the Mason County Board of Education.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, eating out with family and friends, and watching UK football and basketball on TV.  In her spare time, she loved to remember others by calling or sending cards and letters.  She remained an active member of the Mason County Retired Teacher's Association until her illness prevented her from attending meetings.
Mrs. Orme touched many lives, both young and old.  Her compassion and ability to listen to others brought her many friends that were a comfort to her in her senior years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who revere her 95 years on this earth as a living testament to how compassion and caring can manifest itself in the lives of others.
Survivors include her son, Gerald E. (Betty) Orme of Maysville; two grandsons, David (Cindy) Orme of Maysville, and Chris (Stephanie) Orme of Wilder;  three great grandsons. Dustin Orme, Seth Vice, and Josh Vice all of Lexington;  one great granddaughter, Keshia Vallance Porter of Ashland;  three great-great grandsons, Logan DeBoard, Jadrien Vice, and Kesaun Vice;  and several nieces, nephews and a cousin that live out-of-state.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Noble Buckner;  a sister, Genive "Jenny" Buckner Reed,  a half-sister, Leona Buckner Collins, a half-brother, William T. Buckner, and a nephew Stephen Noble Buckner.
