Virginia Follmer Roberson passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Williston, SC. She was born in Maysville, Ky. on April 9, 1922 to the late Charles R. and Edna Frances Follmer. Virginia graduated from MHS in 1940 and went on to work for the Gilbert Grocery as an accountant for 26 years until they closed the business. Virginia worked for WFTM and Trand Engineers before leaving Maysville to work for the US Government Corps of Engineers at the Meldahl Dam and then on to finish her 18 year government career in Cincinnati where she retired in 1986. While there she received numerous achievement awards for her service. She then moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and began working with her son, Will Roberson, owner of National Beverage Screen Printers, Inc. She moved to South Carolina in 1991 when his business relocated where she continued to work through 2010.
While living in Maysville, Virginia was an active and devoted member of Seddon Methodist Church playing the piano and organ for over 30 years. She was a board member and a Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Sgt. Paul McFarland, who was killed in World War Two, and her second husband William H. Roberson Jr., of May's Lick, Ky., who passed away in 1978. She also lost two young brothers Robert and Roscoe at a very young age and most recently a sister Geneva Martin Rivard who passed away in 2006. She leaves behind two sons and their spouses, Tom and Libby Roberson of Williston, SC, and Will and Janet Roberson of Aiken, SC., one brother William D. and Marilyn Follmer of Elizaville, Ky., and one sister Patricia A. Thacker of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., granddaughter Michelle Roberson Kehl and husband Kraig, two great-grandchildren, Jarrod Thomas and Jordin Lynne Kehl, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. Granddaughter Rebecca Shawn Roberson, great-grandchildren, Clay Huffman, Nick Collier, Cassie Collier all of Maysville, Ky. She has one great-great granddaughter Alyson Michelle Collier also of Maysville.
Services will be conducted at 4 pm Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Palmer Funeral Home, May's Lick, Ky. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the May's Lick Cemetery.
