Obituary

Wardlow Louis "Sonny" Brammer Jr., 79, of Maysville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on May 8, 1946, to Wardlow Morgan Brammer Sr. and Loretta Marie Gallenstein Brammer, Sonny was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and a man defined by service, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. He was married for 56 years to the love of his life, Ann Jett Brammer. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, loyalty, and love — a partnership that stood as a testament to strength and grace.

Sonny is survived by his devoted daughters, Naina Brammer and Sunanda (Jeff) Beringer; and his adored grandchildren: Sora (Cooper Rolph) Brammer, James Beringer, and Isabella Beringer — each of whom brought immense joy and purpose to his life. His love for his grandchildren was boundless and beautifully evident. He didn't just spend time with them — he cherished it. He was the kind of grandfather who got down on the floor to play, showed up for every milestone, and made ordinary moments feel special. Whether he was babysitting, sharing stories, sneaking them treats, or offering a warm smile paired with endless encouragement, he made sure each grandchild knew how deeply they were treasured. His eyes would light up at the mere mention of their names, and he dedicated himself to ensuring they always felt his steadfast, proud, and unconditional love.  He also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews: Lisa and Eddie Johnson and their son, Spencer (Allison) Johnson, and granddaughters Charley, Emma Kate, and the late Virginia Kathryn; Mary and David Irwin; Megan (Matt) Davenport and family; as well as sister-in-law Janie (Jim) Mason and their children, John Mason, Steve (Amy) Mason, Ruthie Rushing, Claire Mason, and John Michael Mason. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jackie Crawford.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Frances Crawford, and his beloved in-laws, Ruth Ann and James R. Jett.

Sonny began his professional life at McKay Studio before moving on to Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He later dedicated over two decades to the Maysville Police Department, retiring as Assistant Chief of Police and a proud K-9 handler — a role he carried with humility and honor. After retiring from law enforcement, he worked at Dravo Lime before launching a new chapter as the owner of E-Z Cash Pawn & Jewelry in 1999, where he built lasting relationships and served the community until his final retirement.

A man of deep faith, Sonny was a devoted member of St. Patrick Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a founding member of the local band, The Whatsits, where he shared his musical talents and love of a good tune with the community for many years.

Sonny never missed an opportunity to enjoy life — whether it was sitting at the beloved 4:00 Table in Florida with friends and a Big Ralph, golfing, cheering on UK basketball and football, or watching the Cincinnati Bengals. He loved gardening, good music, laughter, and long conversations at the Sprinkles of Hope breakfast table. He also lived his faith through action, volunteering at Knights of Columbus events — especially holiday dinners — and proudly serving meals during Black History Tours.

Sonny's legacy is one of generosity, humor, steadfast love, and quiet strength. He made every person he met feel welcome, every child feel special, and every need worth his time. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the honor of knowing him, but the memories he created will last forever.
