CLARENCE GIFFORD Obituary

MAYSVILLE   Clarence Harrison Gifford, 90, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville surrounded by his family.  He was born on August 26, 1929 in Washington, Kentucky to the late Agnes Gifford Rhodes & Benjamin Harrison Gifford.  Clarence is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sue Carol Swartz Gifford, four daughters, Patti (Bill) Lester, Lynn Moreland, Cindy (Steve) Cropper and Kathy (Ron Burkett) Gifford, four grandchildren, Bill Lester, Krista Smith, Stephenie Cropper Glass and Michael Cropper, eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Christine Gifford, Calvert Gifford, Clifton Gifford, and Mary Alice Willet.

Clarence graduated from the May’s Lick High School and worked for 37 years as a route salesman for the Butternut Bread Company.  Following his retirement from the bread route, he worked for local car dealerships as a driver and was active in his church and community, generously giving of his time.  Clarence was an avid gardener, and nothing made him happier than planting, tending, and harvesting his garden.  He was a lifelong member of Washington United Methodist Church.  He was dearly loved by all who knew him, always bringing laughter with his storytelling and great sense of humor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM, on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Washington United Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Beck officiating.  Interment will follow in the Washington Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Palmer Funeral Home & Crematory in May’s Lick.  In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation Kentucky Chapter (410 W. Chestnut Street, Louisville, KY 40202) and/or Humane Society of Buffalo Trace (P.O. Box 758, Maysville, KY 41056).  The Palmer Funeral Home & Crematory of May’s Lick is serving the family.  Online Condolences may be given at www.palmerfuneralhome.net
