Shirley Hughes, 81, of Mt. Olivet passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the home of her son Howard Wayne & Mary Hughes in Robertson County.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Robertson County on February 9,1939 daughter of the late Julian & Avis Lorain Claypoole. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid member of the Robertson County Historical Society. Her upmost priority was raising her family and kindness to others. She was a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and enjoyed her employment at the Robertson County Health Care Facility.
Survivors include her son Howard Wayne (Mary) Hughes and a daughter Caroline Sue Hughes both of Mt. Olivet; three grandchildren, Karla Flynn, Casey Doyle and Ashley Stitt; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Doyle, Madalynn Stitt, and Garrett Flynn; a sister Julia Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William C. Hughes whose death occurred in July of 2012 and a son William C. Hughes II and an infant son and infant granddaughter.
Memorial service will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Palmer Funeral Home & Crematory in May’s Lick with Rev. Jim Finch and Chaplain Keith Sergent officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Robertson County Volunteer Fire Department in C/O. Frank Fulton P.O. Box 93 Mt. Olivet, KY 41064.
